I want to add one minor suggestion here to this issue that I have already commented upon on the other board.
Again I think it's nice to have a single toggle menu for Collapse/Expand topic commands like Acta because with that I can just hit its keyboard shortcut twice to check the content of subtopics of the selected one and hide it again. As an additional suggestion, I think option+command+/ might be more suitable for Collapse/Expand Family commands. We are used to pressing option key for that purpose with other applications like Finder.app or Mail.app (ex cmd+rightarrow vs opt+cmd+rightarrow in Finder).
Depending on the selection, both Expand and Collapse may be applicable. So a toggling command doesn't work well.
Hi,
I think you're considering the case of multiple selection. How do you think the following idea? (copied from Using Opal board). Sorry if you already read and just rejected it... > In case of the multiple selection, how about just to expand all the selected topics if some of them are expanded and the others are collapsed? Then, you can just hit the shortcut twice to collapse all selected topics. Thus, the effect of the toggle command can be always unambiguously defined.
Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking about them.
-- Alfred North Whitehead, Introduction to Mathematics (1911) This is precisely why the simplicity in Acta, such as the simple expand/collaps toggle with the same key, made it so wonderful. Having to use the option variant for half of it ... well, plainly stated, I hate it. |
