Export Hanging Indents

It would be nice if the Export feature would include outline formatting, i.e. hanging indents instead of regular paragraphs. Then the outline would look like an outline in TextEdit etc. without the user having to fuss with the format.

BTW, the "Word" export option produced a file that would not open in MS Word X on my machine.

Hanging indents will probably be in a future release.

I don't have problems with .doc files and Word 2004, I don't know if I have the older version around but will check. I might need a sample file (please mail to bugz AT a-sharp.com or use Help > Report a Bug).

Haven't been able to duplicate the problem: the second time I tried it, the Word file was flawless.

Perhaps it was the succession of steps: to test the feature, I unzipped the software to the desktop, exported an RTF file to the resulting desktop folder, and then exported the malformed MSWord file to the same folder. You might try duplicating those steps to see if you can reproduce the bug.

Otherwise, sorry to have wasted your time on it!

I think I would need the outline you exported. Do you still have that?

I just want to add my strong vote for exporting hanging indents.  When I used Acta (and I used it A LOT) it was primarily as a prewriter.  I would then export the outline to my favorite word processor (which actually was, and still is, Claris/AppleWorks) for final editing, cleaning up and printing.  This way I could use multiple columns, flow around graphics, etc.

I really need Opal to do this (export formats, such as hanging indents) as well as Acta used to.

BTW I am NOT in favor of making Opal an outliner/word processor.  It's not necessary.  I am perfectly content with Opal being "only" a very superior outliner.  Acta was the best, hands down and by far.  The current crop of "whiz-bang" outliners (like OmniOutliner) are pretty worthless to me.  I need an outliner to be super-fast and pretty simple.  I want to concentrate on my ideas, not on the application.  That is what Acta accomplished so well, in my opinion.

Keep up the great work, David.  I recently bought Opal and I have to admit I am waiting for even greater things from this neat outliner...like hanging indents.

This should be improved in 1.0.3.
