Hullo, newbie here.
Jusy came across Opal yesterday, and am struggling to find things that I want that aren't already there... but I found it. Can I have a Style button please (like Pages - although Pages let's you see the exact Style format in the dropdown menu and I'm not asking for that but wouldn't be opposed to that:-). I have to mouse-control, find FONT scroll across and down to open Styles. It could be added in Customize Toolbar. For that matter can I have a Copy Style and Paste Style Buttons too please. I pasted a text file (from Pages) with some graphics - the format was good - the fonts, positioning, bold etc. were all correct but the "styles" were not imported - ie. not present in the dropdown/select "favorite styles" - so I have to redefine them again... but I guess I only have to do that once and Opal will "remember" my favorite styles for future docs. By the way, the images instead of being centered all went left..? I was able to re-center them using some convoluted style workaround... by selecting an already centered text (which was pasted into Opal) but that's too hard. I cannot find a Center command or left or right justification for that matter... like you have Bold and Italic but no Center... which is another way of saying can I have a Style button please. Opal is absolutely the best! I'm buying it even without the Style button - well I think I am.
One thing about styles that many people do not realize is ... some programs, like Micro$oft Word, have the various style attributes as a kind of environment that the text sloshes around in. Others, like Word Perfect, approach it from a completely different direction ... every character carries with it its attributes (font, bold/italic/etc., size, etc.). Going back and forth between the two worlds is messy, and not big fun for the programmer, I'm sure. Going back and forth between multiple times Word and WordPerfect, even though each app can read the other's stuff, gets really nasty.
Whatever David can put in there and do well, I'm happy for. I'm not looking for the jack-of-all-trades app that does everything but not well. Thanks again David.
The simplicity of the software is beautiful and need not be changed - a button that says Style is simple.

I'm not sure what you mean here. This sounds like you're describing a hierarchical menu from some other application. >>> I pasted a text file (from Pages) with some graphics - the format was good - the fonts, positioning, bold etc. were all correct but the "styles" were not imported <<< Pages is a pretty capable page layout program, and can do a lot of stuff (e.g. wrap text around graphics) that's pretty much outside Opal's scope. Some form of style support is possible in the future, though many people also seem to think that it should be level-driven (e.g. top-level topics 14-point bold, others 12-point plain).

Hi, thanks for trying to figure out what I was asking but I have a picture for you that paints a thousand words. Goto http://www.zulenet.com/opal.html So my question is, rather than mousing around is there any chance for a button? Thank you.
OK, I see now. The contextual menu.
For 1.0, it's too late. I'm also not sure this is the best approach for the future. I do appreciate the desire to pick a style. I don't know if this will work for multiple topics, however.
One of the guys mentioned 'centering'.
Justifications. I would love to see tools for left center right justifications in the toolbar options. ...Each with their own keystroke command ( while I'm wishing ). I use Center justification often. For me this allows Opal to replace any top Word-processor for my purposes. Word processors like Word are just clumsy and do mysterious thing. Opal is great. It works like I 'think'. When possible, please add this widget too your wonderful program. I'm using it everyday. |
