Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

I wonder if it would be possible to have custom keyboard shortcuts for menu items.

In the other outliners I have used, Move Right or Left were accomplished using TAB and SHIFT-TAB. In Opal, these keystrokes seem to select the text in a topic (not a behavior I have observed in any other application). I would like to have a way to assign TAB to Move, thereby putting Opal more in line with other apps, and substituting a simple keystroke for an awkward, two-handed, three-fingered one.

You could try using System Preferences (Keyboard Shortcuts tab of Keyboard & Mouse).

At some point, tab will become a way to move between columns.

How would I get System Preferenes to recognize TAB as the key I want to use? If I press TAB in the box, it's just going to move to the next box (normal behavior in such cases).

Ah, maybe you can't (at least not directly -- might be possible if you can locate this preference and edit it a different way).

Again, I don't recommend this, as it will at some point conflict with something you might want to do (tab between columns).

I use Quickeys OS X for that, and many other shortcuts.

You can assign Tab & Shift-Tab to the menu item you want.

I just saw mention of Proxi from Griffin that might let you pretend one key is another. Haven't tried it myself.
