Using Opal

I'm told that you can run the latest version of Opal under Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4). I haven't verified this yet -- I think some 10.5-only features (link detection and grammar checking) will appear in the user interface but won't work. I just don't know quite what "won't work" means.

I just tried Opal 1.2.1 on a machine running 10.4.11. It basically ran fine.

10.5-only features are ignored -- you can choose them but nothing happens:

"Detect links automatically" preference
"Check grammar with spelling" preference
"Spelling and Grammar" menu is mislabelled (no grammar), and Check grammar with spelling menu item is ignored.

I think this is it -- I originally had some other changes in mind but they didn't make it to 1.2.

This isn't ideal behavior, which is why Opal 1.1.1 is still available, but if you're willing to live with these minor glitches, it should be safe to use the latest build if you're using Tiger.
